About Ruth

I am an artist and advocate, using the arts to support both personal and collective creative health.

Drawing on my lived experience of childhood cancer, my practice explores creativity as a means of processing trauma and supporting self-management of illness.

Working across photography, printmaking and sculpture, I continually experiment with materials to process and communicate experiences that are difficult to articulate into words.

I am a Champion for the Lived Experience Network (LENs) in the North West, advocating for lived experience to remain central within arts, health and wellbeing movement.

I hold an MA in Arts, Health and Wellbeing, where I explored clay as a tool for recovery. I was honoured to receive the Richard Hambro Award for Inspiring Leaders.

"I believe the arts shouldn’t be an extra or little luxury – but something that is woven into the fabric of our everyday lives" Ruth Flanagan
